How to Change Your Address on Your Driver License at the Texas DMV
For Texas, you’re able to complete this process online. No need to make an appointment or stand in line. To update your address, you’ll need the following:
- A valid credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, or American Express)
- The last four digits of your Social Security number
- Your current Texas Driver License or ID Card
- A printer. This will be used to print out your temporary license while your official one is mailed to you.
With all of this readily available, visit the Texas DMV website and complete the process. You can also update your voter registration in-person at the DMV.
Changing Your Address With The Postal Service
The United States Postal Service allows you to change your address online. To do this, you’ll need the following:
- The email address that you use often
- A valid credit or debit card for the $1.05 charge
After you have both, fill out the form on USPS’s Change of Address page. It’s important to note that updating your address with the USPS doesn’t cover the DMV, voter registration, and other services. You must update your address separately.
You can also request that the post office forward any mail sent to your old address to your new address for up to a year.
Update Your Address With the IRS
It’s wise to also update your address with the IRS. They provide an online form to change your address on any tax documents at the federal level.
How To Change Your Address As A Handgun Owner
If you’re a gun owner, you’ll also need to update your license to carry a handgun. To update your address, visit Texas’ official page here to get started. If you already have an account, all you’ll need is your driver’s license or state ID, your date of birth, and either the phone number or email address associated with your License to Carry.
Other Places to Notify That You’re Changing Addresses
